Netflix just released its new movie titled Secret Obsession. It’s a promising stalker movie that had some potential but unfortunately, I was very disappointed. Here is why.
Spoilers alert.
Secret obsession tells a story about a young lady who survived a car accident and lost her memory. Such a cliche I know. She doesn’t remember her husband who’s there for her and soon she realizes something’s not adding up with the guy.
The whole car accident occurred under some strange circumstances and detectives get involved and things get messy.
Spoiler alert. In conclusion, the guy is her crazy stalker who killed her husband and family, photoshopped his face on her wedding photos, kidnaped her and held her hostage, and threatens to kill her as well, if she won’t play husband and wife with him.
So far not so bad right?
If you are interested in watching it first, you might do it now.
For the love of God don’t watch the trailer.
That’s the main issue I had with this movie. It’s all there in the trailer!
No suspense left. From the moment I hit play, I knew how it would end. Who’s the bad guy. Who died and who’s gonna die. It’s an hour and a half long movie and I’m no pro but I could easily tell what’s gonna happen and at what time.
The movie contains so many cringe-worthy mistakes and I had trouble distinguishing whether the “thing” was bad on purpose or the producers didn’t care enough.
Spoilers.
Like the Russels bad photoshop skills. I mean it was so predictable but on the other hand how else could Jennifer figure out he’s an imposter?
The fact remains that Russel is a very lame bad guy. He lacks that truly psychotic site. I feel like he’s not really into it and I realize I sound ridiculous but if you’re gonna create an obsessive bad guy give him art at least some depth. There were no emotions coming from Mike Vogel who played the character. And again it’s confusing. Was the emotionless murderer how he was supposed to play Russel’s character or it was bad acting?
The “sad” backstory of how the girl he liked didn’t even notice him did nothing to me. It’s just another white guy. He lacks creativity in his murders or in the disposal of the body. Shallow grave in the backyard. Really?
During the whole time watching, I kept thinking about other stalker show Netflix created.
Show called YOU.
I wrote a review for that as well and you can check it here: You on Netflix – Beware of stalkers.
Stalker Joe set the stakes high for me and stalker Russel got nothing on him. Sure they both kill everyone who stands in their way to get the girl but in a very different emotional display.
I was so excited to see my beloved Disney star Brenda Song and her performance was the only thing I enjoyed in this movie.
Maybe the problem is that it was all so rushed. Everything happens too quickly and too predictably.
Maybe if the movie would be made into tv shows we would have a better understanding of the characters.
However, maybe that would not help either.
It’s easy watching. I’m sure it won’t have any impact on your life but if you’re looking to spend an hour and a half watching something you don’t really need to focus on, then Secret obsession is it.
This seems to be an ongoing trend with some of Netflix’s recent original movies. Interesting premises that are poorly executed. Disappointing since some of the stuff that they’ve released previously has been well done.

Yes exactly, thank you
Well! One good thing about this flick? The Actors looked New. Netflix does seem to be piling its massive Riches into the same Actors over & Over! I mean have they (well known Actors) not got enough money? What else could they be getting out of some of those Awfuly written shows? But more money? Poorly written plots come thick and fast at old NetChinaflix. Startreck-Discovery s2 had a whole new Writing Team after Startreck D s1: possibly yes another whole new Team for S3: maybe. I bet I could write better stories than half of those Scripts. If I were Good at Grammer! Id possibly be a writer. But its my worst subject of all subjects!’ Shame with my Vivid Imagination.

Yes exactly, no suspense or surprise left, shame though
Omg, it was terrible 😫😫
This was so bad it was AMAZING. I want to thank netflix for the fantastic score, which really helped me identify when I should be sad/scared/intrigued.. Without that i would have been totally lost
I read this story line in a book many years back. Story had a lot more depth and she forgets new memories as well. Takes her a long time to accumulate suspicions and figure out what went wrong. It was a very good suspense read. Wish I remembered the title 🤔. It set the expectations high for when I watched the movie so that was a bit disappointing

Sounds much better, thank you 🙂
